Mosquito Nets Malaria in Africa is very real. It is a serious and dangerous disease. Mosquito netting is known to decrease your chance of contracting malaria. Bring your own mosquito netting. You can purchase chemically pretreated netting, or you can add your own chemical treatment. Mesh size is an indication of how large the openings in the net are. You want something that will keep out mosquitoes and Ceratopogonidae (no-see-ums.) 300 holes per inch will keep out mosquitoes, 520 holes per inch will keep the no-see-ums out. Nets treated with Permethrin will increase the effectiveness of the net. Mosquito netting comes in various sizes and shapes designed for different purposes.
